Gothique Library a Sign of New The Sims 3 Business Model?

The Sims 3 Lady Ravendancer Goth's Book o' SpellsUnless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve most likely heard about the Gothique Library you can download from The Sims 3 Store.

One of the things I like the most about this download is EA has taken what could be a Stuff Pack–if they added a couple of outfits and plants and maybe a hair or two–and has pulled it down to its most basic parts and is offering it for a decent price [1200 SimPoints or <$20].

The Sims 3 Gothique LibraryThe set comes with a new bookcase, a throne jobber, some candles, a few pillars, windows, a wall “candle box” and a new “Medieval Chess Table.”

More importantly, if you don’t want the lot, you can still buy just the spell book for 500 SimPoints and isn’t that the cool part of this set?

I would completely dig it if EA would ditch the Stuff Pack model and move in this DLC direction. There is a happy place between no DLC with all content coming with the game and making your title so bare bones that you cripple it if your audience doesn’t shell out cash for the DLCs. Giving players a well-rounded base game and expansions and then offering optional, high quality DLC is a way to make everyone happy. Well…just about everyone; some people are still going to bitch.

The model I’d like to see would be a $20 Stuff Pack Store Set where items can be individually downloaded if a player wanted to go that route. Maybe you’d have to pay a bit of a premium to download per item but if you just want one thing then that wouldn’t be an issue.

When I heard about the Gothique Library, I instantly thought about the survey I took back in December of 2010 about possible new The Sims 3 worlds.

This part in particular:

The Sims Store survey questions.

Now that the “Haunted Library with Magical Spell Book” has been released, I wonder what’s going to be next? The “Magical Fountain that reverses Sims aging?”

In case you haven’t gotten a chance to try out the spell book, here’s a bit of gameplay for you.

And while we’re talking about possible new Store stuff, what would you like to see?

Anything from the survey I took [See the full survey here.] catch your eye or do you have your own original and spectacular ideas?
