I have this habit of making my Sims Family Oriented and inevitably the chicks end up with some fugly maternity clothes once they start showing.
If you hate when that happens as much as I do, I’m here to teach you how to fix the fug.
First off, let’s discuss the default pregnancy outfits and then we’ll talk about how to tweak them so they don’t suck.
These are the default shirts for Everyday and for Workout wear and the dress that doubles as Formal and as Sleepwear.
These are the pants used for Everyday and Workout and then the two bathing suits that can be used during pregnancy.
Now you know the default clothes and you need to know how to stop the hideous default colors/patterns from popping up once your Sim starts popping out.
The “secret” of this whole deal is the fact you can make up to three different outfits for each category. So, to over explain, you can have three Everyday outfits, three Formal outfits, three Workout outfits, three Sleepwear outfits and three Swimwear outfits.
If you plan on getting your Sims pregnant, I suggest you just go ahead and start out with multiple outfits when you first create the Sim. It’ll save you time later and you won’t have to worry about all this when the Sim gets knocked up.
First things first, from my personal experience, your “maternity outfits” need to be Outfit 1 in each category. If you’re creating the Sim from scratch, just go ahead and do the maternity stuff first and then do the non-prego clothes.
Here’s my Sim – Denay – wearing her Everyday maternity outfit. I screwed up in this picture and as you can see, the maternity outfit is the second outfit.
Here’s the recoloured Formal dress.
You get the idea. Go through and recolour the stuff Maxis/EA made available for pregnant Sims to whatever you like.
Now, here’s the trick – this is very important – have your Sim change into the maternity outfit BEFORE they start to “show”. Once they’re showing you won’t be able to pick what they’re going to wear other than what maternity clothes the game gives you.
Alrighty. Now you know how to make your Sim’s maternity clothes not suck nearly as much.
When was creating new outfits, since I already had outfits created, all of the maternity stuff became Outfit 2. I managed to switch the Everyday maternity to Outfit 1 by “Planning Outfit” but for some obnoxious reason, all of the other outfits did not switch and so the only thing that isn’t ugly is her Everyday maternity outfit.
If you want to just download some maternity clothes for your Sims, then check out Poppy Sims’s Maternity section. There’s some really cute stuff over there and I plan on downloading some of it myself since I’m getting a bit tired of the limited clothing styles.
The Sim I’m currently playing – and her husband, for that matter – are both family oriented and both want to be “Surrounded by Family”. I’m going to be seeing maternity clothes A LOT and pretty clothes make everything more fun…even pregnancy.
